Planetary Dignity & Circuit Strength
How planetary dignity (domicile, exaltation, detriment, fall) determines the structural integrity of specific circuits in the natal architecture.
Planetary dignity is not a value judgment — it is an engineering assessment. A planet in domicile operates with full structural support: it has access to its native resources, its signal is clear, and its function is unimpeded. A planet in detriment operates in hostile architecture: its signal is distorted, its resources are unavailable in their native form, and its function requires compensatory strategies.
In the AOS framework, dignity directly maps to circuit strength. A dignified Mars in Aries produces a clean assertive circuit — the individual can act decisively without excessive friction. Mars in Libra (detriment) produces an assertive circuit that must route through relational considerations before it can fire — not weaker, but structurally more complex and prone to delay or distortion.
The practical implication: when reading an LPECA or APEA report, the planetary dignities of the ruling planets modify the interpretation of every numerical value. A Life Path 1 ruled by a dignified Sun operates differently from a Life Path 1 ruled by a Sun in Aquarius (detriment). The number provides the current; the planetary dignity determines the quality of the wiring.
Exaltation represents optimized function — the planet operates at peak efficiency but in a context that is not its native environment. This produces brilliance with a quality of effort: the individual achieves exceptional results but may feel that their competence requires constant maintenance rather than flowing naturally.
